MalheurButte Cattery

Thank you for visiting MalheurButte Cattery.  We are a small home based breeder located in beautiful Eastern Oregon in the City of Ontario. We are dedicated to raising loveable healthy Munchkins, LaPerms, Skookums and soon, Bambinos. These delightful short babies will steal your heart.

We appreciate the opportunity to help you find the perfect kitten.  We work together with our Veterinarian to ensure all of our cats and kittens stay healthy and have their appropriate vaccinations.  Please check out our AVAILABLE Page for kittens who are ready to meet their new families.  Our kittens stay with us until at least 12 weeks of age.  We will ship within the United States.

We are a proud member of The Dwarf Cat Association (TDCA).   All breeders are not created equal and as
members of TDCA, we work to develop the dwarf breeds and to ensure that our members are reputable and honest with each other and with prospective buyers.  We work to develop healthy and breed standard specific kittens.

Please go to our CONTACT Page for  a list of reputable breeders of  Munchkins, Skookums, Bambinos and other short cats.  For the most up to date information about the wonderful dwarf breeds, check out www.the_dwarf_cat_association.com website.

Munchkins

Studies have determined that the short legs found in Munchkins are the result of a dominant genetic mutation, affecting only the long bones of the front and rear legs. This mutation apparently occurred spontaneously within the feline gene pool and any cat that possesses this gene will exhibit the short legs. A "standard" Munchkin has short legs, while a "nonstandard" Munchkin has long legs. Generally, there will be some of both in most litters. A cat that has received the "Munchkin gene" from one parent will produce Munchkin kittens at an approximate ratio of one Munchkin (standard) kitten to one normal (non-standard) kitten.

LaPerms

LaPerms were first discovered in The Dalles, Oregon. The LaPerm breed began when one of Linda Koehl's farm cats produced a curly kitten through one of nature's creative processes called spontaneous mutation. LaPerms are a hardy, healthy breed and have no known health issues. They are a fairly new breed so there aren’t many available yet for pets.

LaPerms are known for their affectionate personalities as well as their curly coat. They are a wonderful choice if you like a lot of in-your-face cat attention. With their unusual curly coat, they don't shed much or need much grooming. Called a "Dog in Cat’s Clothing", LaPerms are an active, playful cat but if you sit down, expect a lap companion.
